Here are some tips on how to make the most of your limited time and maximize your time spent with God:
Convey Your Plan and Goals to Your Spouse
Are you and your spouse on the same page when it comes to your plans and goals? It is important to be on the same page as your spouse when it comes to scheduling prayer and devotional time into your day. Take turns discussing your plan, goals, and schedule with each other so you can help hold each other accountable and encourage one another in your endeavors.
You could start by prayerfully considering and sharing what you want to accomplish together and individually in your faith journey. Then, share your daily, weekly, and long-term plans and goals. By communicating openly and honestly, you can ensure that you're both on the same page.
Wake Up Early Before Your Family
There are few things more refreshing than spending a few quiet moments with God first thing in the morning. It's a great way to start your day — waking up early to spend time with God instead of (and before) your family. Jesus did this during His ministry on earth. He awoke before His disciples to spend time communing with His Heavenly Father. When you spend time with God before anyone else, you'll have more peace and joy throughout the day, you'll be more productive, and you'll be able to better focus on your relationships with God and others.
I love these words from Psalm 143:8: "Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee."
And here's another passage from one of my favorite authors:
“All who are under the training of God need the quiet hour for communion with their own hearts, with nature, and with God.... We must individually hear Him speaking to the heart. When every other voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes more distinct the voice of God. He bids us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10. This is the effectual preparation for all labor for God. Amidst the hurrying throng, and the strain of life’s intense activities, he who is thus refreshed will be surrounded with an atmosphere of light and peace. He will receive a new endowment of both physical and mental strength. His life will breathe out a fragrance, and will reveal a divine power that will reach men’s hearts.”
Use Your Quiet Time Wisely
One of the best ways to eliminate distractions and use your time wisely when you're spending quiet time with the Lord is to find a place where you can be alone with Him. It's important to have a specific spot in your house or yard where you can go to be alone with your Heavenly Father. This will help train your mind to focus on Him when you're in that space.
Once you've found a good spot, spend some time there each day disconnecting from the world around you. Turn off (or silence) your phone, close your laptop, and just focus on God and His Word. Talk to Him, listen for His voice, and enjoy His presence. You may also want to spend some time reading His Word and praying. Don't feel like you have to rush through your quiet time with God; just let the Holy Spirit guide you and enjoy the time you spend with Him.
“Many, even in their seasons of devotion, fail of receiving the blessing of real communion with God. They are in too great haste. With hurried steps they press through the circle of Christ’s loving presence, pausing perhaps a moment within the sacred precincts, but not waiting for counsel. They have no time to remain with the divine Teacher. With their burdens they return to their work.
These workers can never attain the highest success until they learn the secret of strength. They must give themselves time to think, to pray, to wait upon God for a renewal of physical, mental, and spiritual power. They need the uplifting influence of His Spirit. Receiving this, they will be quickened by fresh life.”
Make God a Part of Your Daily Tasks
If you're like most moms, your day is probably pretty busy. You may not have a lot of time to spend with God throughout the day, but that doesn't mean you can't connect with Him. There are plenty of creative ways to spend quiet time with God, even in the midst of a busy day.
One way to connect with God is to bring him into your daily tasks. As you're going about your day, take a moment to pray and ask for his guidance. Thank Him for the blessings in your life. You can also listen to Christian music, hymns, sermons, audio teachings, or an audio Bible while you're doing other things, such as vacuuming the floor, folding laundry, or working out. I like to listen to God's word daily with the Dwell Audio Bible app while I’m getting some house chores done. This can be a great way to keep your mind focused on God even when you're in the midst of a busy day.
Keep a Prayer Journal
Another creative way to spend time with God is to write down your thoughts and prayers in a journal. This can be a great way to process your day and reflect on your relationship with God. You can also use your journal to record any answered prayers or special moments you've experienced with God. This is a great way to look back and see how far you've come in your faith journey.
A prayer journal is a valuable tool for any busy Christian mom who desires a deeper prayer life. It provides a place to write down thoughts and prayers, as well as track answered prayers and special moments experienced with God.
Prayer journaling can be a highly personal practice, so there's no "right" way to do it. However, there are a few basic tips that can help you get the most out of your prayer journal.
First, set aside a regular time each day or week to pray and journal. This will help to make prayer journaling a habit and ensure that you have adequate time to prayerfully reflect on your motherhood journey and current needs.
Second, be specific in your prayer requests. When you take the time to write down specific needs or problems, you'll be more likely to see answers from God.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:6-8 says, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things."
Finally, don't forget to praise God for His goodness! A prayer journal is an excellent place to record answered prayers and record God's faithfulness in your life. By taking the time to prayerfully reflect on your life, you'll deepen your relationship with God and experience the joy of seeing Him at work in your life.
Go on Early Morning Walks
There's something special about starting the day by talking to God while you enjoy His creation. As you reflect on His goodness, let the beauty of nature fill you with joy and thanksgiving. These early morning walks are a sacred time to connect with your Heavenly Father and grow in your relationship with Him. They're also a wonderful way to get some exercise and fresh air!
Getting some fresh air and exercise is a great way to start your day off on the right foot. And what better way to do that than by spending some quality time with God? So if you're looking for a healthy way to start your day, consider going on a morning walk with God. You'll be blessed in ways you never could have imagined.
Conclusion
Making time for a daily quiet time can be a challenge, but it is so important for our spiritual health. The important thing is that you take the time to do it. Now is the perfect time to get creative and find ways to deepen your relationship with God. By communicating your plans and goals with your spouse, waking up early, going on morning walks, keeping a prayer journal, and making God a part of everything you do, you can make the most of your limited time and maximize your time spent with God.
